Director of Land Conservation, Houston Audubon

Since joining Houston Audubon in 2013, Pete Deichmann has become a driving force for coastal conservation on the Upper Texas Coast. Pete holds a Biology degree from the University of Missouri and honed his expertise through research projects in Wyoming and Massachusetts, however his primary mission for the last decade has been the stewardship and expansion of Houston Audubon’s 18 nature sanctuaries on the Upper Texas Coast.

Pete oversees the complex management of these diverse ecosystems, leading critical initiatives in habitat restoration, biological research, and long-term conservation strategy. His recent work has been instrumental in protecting the region's biodiversity, most notably through his leadership in the landmark land acquisition, Save Bolivar Flats, on the Bolivar Peninsula. Join us as Pete discusses how this strategic expansion secures vital stopover habitat for migratory birds and ensures the continued resilience of our coastal wetlands.
