Rear Adm. Kenneth Iverson is a native of Longview, Texas, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He received his commission in 1986.
Iverson has served on numerous staffs and commands worldwide, including Branch Medical Clinic, La Maddalena, Italy; Naval Hospital (NH) Orlando, NH Rota, Spain; NH Pensacola and NH Sigonella. In 2006, Iverson served as the senior Medical Corps assignment officer at Navy Personnel Command and managed executive medicine, senior operational and surgical assignments and had oversight of the assignments for over 3,700 physicians.
In 2008, he served as executive officer NH Bremerton, a community-based, family medicine teaching hospital with a staff of over 1,200. In 2010, he was commanding officer (CO) of Expeditionary Medical Facility Kuwait (EMF-K), leading three detachments in support of the draw down in Iraq and in preparation for the final transition of EMF-K to the U.S. Army.
In 2011, he became NH Camp Pendleton’s CO, a family medicine teaching hospital with a staff of over 2,300 dedicated to the support of the I Marine Expeditionary Force. Iverson was assigned to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) in 2013, where he served as the deputy chief, education and training, responsible for developing strategy and policy resulting in an educated and trained medical department.
From 2013 to 2015, Iverson continued to serve at BUMED as deputy chief, medical operations, responsible for clinical operations, Medical Home Port program, clinical informatics, fleet programs and performance planning and monitoring.
Iverson became commander of Navy Medicine East, one of two regional commands that manage Navy Medicine’s global health care system, in December 2015.
A diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, Iverson is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit (two), Meritorious Service Medal (four), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, in addition to other personal and unit awards.
