Speaker: Dan Krueger



Dan Krueger is an independent consultant for public infrastructure policy, development, and operations at the federal to municipal level. Dan retired in 2019 from service as the Chief Operating Officer of Gunda Corporation, LLC, a Houston-based engineering firm providing planning, design and management services in all aspects of civil, traffic, and transportation engineering, public works and municipal services, and program and construction management. Previously, Dan led the Department of Public Works and Engineering for the City of Houston as Director from July 2010 to August 2014. He also served in the Department earlier as Deputy Director for Engineering, Construction, and Real Estate, and as Senior Assistant Director for Construction, within an overall ten-year career with the City. During his tenure as Director, the Department gained accreditation by the American Publics Works Association, becoming the largest public works agency accredited by the Association in its history. Beyond his municipal experience in Houston, as an associate of Lockwood, Andrews, Newnam, Dan served as general engineering consultant for Dallas Area Rapid Transit from 2008 to 2010 and managed the design-build program for DART’s new Orange Line light rail system to DFW Airport. He served from 2010-2014 on the Transportation Policy Council for Houston-Galveston Area Council.

Krueger's first career was with United States Army for more than 27 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel with extensive troop leading experience as well as assignments within the US Army of Corps of Engineers, including specific duties as engineering project manager, construction manager, District Engineer, and Deputy Division Engineer, with responsibilities for federal navigation and flood control projects within the Army’s civil works program. He also served in Washington, D.C., as executive officer to the Chief of Engineers. He is a combat veteran with the Army's 1st Infantry Division and has been bestowed numerous awards of the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.

Dan is licensed as a professional engineer in Texas and Virginia, He is degreed as a Bachelor of Science by the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science & Engineering in Construction Management by the University of Michigan, and a Master of Military Art & Science by the US Army Command & General Staff College. Dan and his wife Kathy reside in Houston and have two grown children.
