Kiwanis Club of Houston
August 17th Luncheon
This luncheon will be at Brennan's !!
Speaker: Gary Gartner
Mr. Gartner’s early career included residential home building, commercial construction, and space rocket development. His construction background allowed him to help Commissioner El Franco Lee bring new homes into the Fifth Ward.
He was selected as the Project Manager for the 1998 Habitat for Humanity Jimmy Carter Work Project. We were responsible for building 100 homes, in five days, with 4,000 volunteers. The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity raised $6,2 million to support this effort.
From 1998 until 2910, he worked with Brazos Presbyterian Homes, assisting the elderly.
From 2014 until the present, he has been assisting HISD principals who serve low-income neighborhoods. A few of the efforts have been Book A Month, Rewards for Reading, Wraparound Services, and CORE. All of these start-up efforts have helped children remove the barriers to a successful education.
