Speakers: Michael Nichols

Michael has been actively engaged in Houston’s business and civic life for over four decades, holding leadership roles in law and corporate management. He served as General Counsel at Sysco Corporation and later as Chief Operating Officer at Grocer’s Supply Company.

Following his impactful tenure at the Houston Parks Board, Michael took on the role of CEO at the Coalition for The Homeless, where his strategic vision and collaboration efforts led to marked improvements. These initiatives not only strengthened the organization but also contributed to more effective and sustainable solutions for addressing homelessness in Houston.

Retiring in 2024, Michael accepted the role of Director of Housing and Community Development Department for the City of Houston. He’s committed to ensuring affordable housing for all, aligning with the Administration’s goal to make Houston the most affordable housing city in the nation.

Michael has a loving wife, Marcia Couch Nichols, with whom he has shared over 40 years of joyous marriage, raising four children and cherishing their roles as devoted grandparents to five grandchildren.
