Bill King is a lifelong resident of the Houston area. He earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Houston.
Mr. King has enjoyed a varied business and legal career, including serving as the national managing partner of Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, Of Counsel to Bracewell & Giuliani, and the president of Southwest Airport Services, Inc. He is currently a Fellow at the Budget & Tax Policy Center at Rice University’s Baker Institute. He is also the managing director of a family real estate investment firm and serves on the boards of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Houston’s largest healthcare provider.
He wrote for the Houston Chronicle from 2005-2015. From 2010-2015, he authored a bi-weekly column and served on the editorial board. He has also authored two books. His most recent is Depopulation: Our New Demographic Reality. He is a regular contributor to Real Clear Politics and publishes his own widely followed blog at www.BillKingBlog.com.
Mr. King’s community involvement includes numerous public service and volunteer organizations. From 1992-2005, he served in various positions with the City of Kemah, including two terms as Mayor. In the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Ike, Mr. King served on gubernatorial commissions and chaired a regional task force on the disastrous Rita evacuation. The recommendations of that task force served as the basis for new evacuation plans adopted for the region. For his work on that task force, he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the National Hurricane Conference in 2017. In 2015 and 2019, he was a candidate for mayor of Houston.
He has also served in many capacities with charitable and civic organizations, including Interfaith Ministries, Methodist DeBakey Heart Council, HISD Foundation, Crime Stoppers, Galveston Bay Foundation, Memorial-Hermann Foundation, Trees for Houston, the Houston Symphony, the Lone Star Flight Museum, and many others.
