Speaker: Daisy Zhang, PhD., Shen Yun Performing Arts. Topic: “Traditional Chinese Culture and Shen Yun Performing Arts"
Shen Yun began in 2006, when a group of leading classical Chinese artists came together in New Yorkwith one wish: to revive the ancient culture of
China and share it with the world. The non-profit group, entirely independent of the Chinese regime, has now grown to three dance companies and three orchestras, totaling some 300 artists who perform in 20 countries and 100 cities.
China was once known as Shen Zhou −The
Divine
Land
– which described a land where deities and mortals coexisted. For thousands of years, Buddhist, Taoist, and other disciplines such as calligraphy, music, and medicine, were said to have been passed down from the heavens, but these ancient cultural traditions withered and died under the Cultural Revolution, and Shen Yun's mission is to revive them.
Daisy Zhang, special event coordinator for Shen Yun Performing Arts in Texas, will explain classical Chinese dance and music and their deep connection with ancient oriental virtues and wisdom.
