The Reverend Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College where he received the College's highest service award, The President's Student Service Award. He earned his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from Beeson Divinity School.
After serving as Chaplain at the Universityof

, Dr. Levenson served as an Associate at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in
Birmingham. He became Rector of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in
Lafayette,
Louisiana
(1997-2002) and then served as Rector of Christ Church Parish in
Pensacola,
Florida
(2002-2007). He began his tenure as the 4th Rector of St. Martin’s in the fall of 2007. With nearly 8,700 members,
St. Ma
rtin’s is the largest Episcopal Church in the
United States.
He has been recognized by both of his alma maters in recent years, receiving the "Distinguished Alumnus" honor in 2011 from Beeson Divinity School and awarded the “Dean’s Cross for Servant Leadership” from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2012. He has published over 50 articles in various theological journals and magazines, and is the author of Provoking Thoughts, a book of Lenten Meditations, Preparing Room, a book of Advent Meditations and the forthcoming book, Summer Times, soon to be released.
